By the end of 2004, the UK had installed 888 MW of wind power. This ranks sixth behind Germany, Spain, the United States, Denmark and India. However, the UK has one of the best wind regimes in the world. It is without a doubt that wind capacity in the UK will continue to grow due to the Renewables Obligation and the Low Carbon Buildings Programme, which just recently was introduced to replace the Clear Skies program.
Worldwide, over 59,000 MW of wind power has been installed. This represents an investment of approximately £7 billion. Since 1996, wind power capacity has increased 28% per year, which is the highest of any energy source.
