< Back to all project news 16 Oct 2007 - Westnewton Wind cluster exhibition
More than 100 residents attended last night's exhibition on the proposed wind cluster at Warwick Hall Farm, which was held in Westnewton Village Hall.
Broadview Energy Limited has applied to Allerdale Borough Council for permission to erect five wind turbines that will generate sufficient clean renewable energy to supply 6,989 households annually.
"We staged the exhibition in order to provide local people with as much information as possible about the project," said Broadview Managing Director Jeffrey Corrigan.
"It also gave us the chance to deal personally with their questions on a one-to-one basis. For example a number of people were concerned about the impact of construction traffic, but we were able to reassure them that the peak period for additional traffic would only last for between six and eight weeks."
"Visual impact was also important and we were able to explain that because the turbines are not on top of a hill, the total height will be much less than in similar projects in Cumbria. In some cases the maximum tip height of our turbines will be lower than the base of other projects."
"Whilst there are a number of residents who oppose the project on visual grounds we also met people who support the project as they understand it will help in the fight against global warming, which is so important to future generations."
"We are sorry that the postal strike meant that some people only received letters inviting them to the exhibition late in the day. Fortunately many people heard about the exhibition from the posters placed around the area in advance and our advertisements in local papers."
The Parish Councils also did a good job of notifying their constituents. Anyone who missed the exhibition and would like information about the project should contact us through our website at www.westnewtonwind.co.uk"
