< Back to all project news 10 Mar 2008 - Westnewton Westnewton wind project received over 750 letters of support
Following on from a two day campaign in December where Broadview Energy set out to survey support for the Westnewton wind project in Workington and surrounding areas, a further two day survey has been completed in Maryport, Wigton and Carlisle. Although weather conditions kept lots of residents off the streets, the campaign received a further 320 letters of support which will be sent to Allerdale Borough Council, bringing the total to 750.
Broadview Energy Limited has applied to Allerdale Borough Council for permission to erect five wind turbines that will generate sufficient clean renewable energy to supply 6,989 households annually.
“We are extremely happy with the continued support for the project, particularly in view of the fact that those in favour are always much less vocal than those opposed. This demonstrates that the residents of Cumbria recognise the effectiveness of wind farms in combating climate change.” said Broadview Managing Director Jeffrey Corrigan.

Notes to editors:- Broadview Energy Limited develops wind projects in Great Britain that will generate clean, sustainable energy. The company focuses on small projects, typically between two and ten turbines, as they provide greater flexibility in site selection, simpler grid connections, and less visual and other impacts than larger projects. Broadview Energy identifies suitable sites, evaluates them and then takes them to the planning stage and through to construction and operation.
- In addition to the Westnewton project the company currently has several projects under development in Aberdeenshire, North Yorkshire and the East Midlands. For more information visit www.broadviewenergy.com.
