Community

Broadview is an environmentally conscious and responsible developer that strives to build a good rapport with local communities where its sites are located.

Community newsletters

As part of the engagement process, two project newsletters were distributed prior to the first public exhibitions. The initial project newsletter was distributed in September 2009 and the second was issued in June 2010.

Community consultation events

Since the project was announced in September 2009, three public exhibitions have taken place, giving members of the local community the opportunity to meet the Broadview team and learn more about the proposals. The three events were as follows:

1. Knightcote Village Hall, 28th September 2009, attended by approximately 130 people.
2. Knightcote Village Hall, 12th July 2010, attended by approximately 120 people.
3. Knightcote Village Hall, 8th December 2011, attended by approximately 110 people.

In addition to the public exhibitions, a trip was conducted in October 2009, which allowed local residents to gain first-hand experience of an operational wind farm.  A second wind farm trip took place more recently on Saturday 4th February 2012 to Broadview’s operational Low Spinney wind farm site in Leicestershire. The trip enabled local residents to gain first-hand experience of operational wind turbines that are of the same dimensions as those proposed at Starbold. People attending the trip were driven to different locations at various distances from the turbines, so that they could hear how they sound and how they appear within the local landscape.

If you have missed any of our consultation events, or alternatively have questions in relation to the Starbold wind farm, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Community fund

If the Starbold project is approved and constructed, Broadview will set up a community fund equivalent to £2,500 per MW of installed capacity per annum.  The money could be used to support local community projects or to fund local green initiatives such as energy efficiency measures.  However, it is anticipated that the fund would be administered locally and that independent trustees would decide how the money is spent.

If you have any suggestions for this community fund, please contact us.
