Broadview Energy, the developer behind the proposed wind farm between Knightcote and Bishop’s Itchington, has reacted with disappointment to last night’s decision by Stratford District Council to reject Broadview’s application to erect a temporary anemometer mast on the site known as Starbold.

The proposed mast, which comprises a steel tubular pole measuring thirty centimetres in diameter and sixty metres in height, would be used to measure wind speed and wind direction for a period of two years.  Despite a recommendation from the Council’s planning officer to approve the application, the planning committee voted to reject it.

Olly Buck, Project Manager for Broadview Energy, said: “We’re very disappointed that the planning committee decided to reject our application, despite their officer’s recommendation that it be approved.  We worked hard to revise our proposals and address the concerns of the Government Inspector who dismissed our previous proposal after an appeal.  The amendments we made to the scheme were recognised by the Council’s officers who recommended approval of the application; it is therefore frustrating that the committee chose not to approve the mast.  It was clear from the large number of local residents that attended last night’s meeting that there continues to be concern within the local community regarding our wider intention to develop a wind farm at the site.  It is therefore apparent that, when moving forward with our proposals, we must be more thorough in communicating the benefits of the scheme.”

Broadview will now review the decision made by the committee before deciding on its next course of action.  In addition, Broadview will continue to consult with the local community and other interested parties regarding the proposed development of a wind farm on the Starbold site.
