< Back to all project news 08 Oct 2009 - Seamer Wind farm at Seamer to be built and planning appeal will be made against Hambleton Council
Broadview Energy has today confirmed a three-turbine wind farm will be operating by the second half of 2010 on land between the villages of Seamer and Hilton. The decision follows Stockton Borough Council's approval (1st July 2009) of the three turbines and the associated infrastructure that resided within its administrative area.
Broadview Energy has also confirmed it will appeal to the UK Government's Planning Inspectorate against Hambleton District Council's decision, made last month (17th September), to reject its planning application for the two turbines that would have formed the other “part” of the original five-turbine Seamer wind farm.
The planning decision against the two turbines, to be sited within Hambleton, was made by the Council's planning committee (seven votes to five), contrary to the recommendation of their planning officer. This followed Stockton Council's approval in July and the Secretary of State determination in August that there were no grounds to “call in” the application as it complied with the relevant planning policies.
Jeffrey Corrigan, Managing Director of Broadview Energy, said: “We have reluctantly taken the decision to appeal against Hambleton's refusal. Given Stockton's approval, the Secretary of State's careful consideration of our project and the recommendation of Hambleton's planning officer, we feel we have every justification and a very strong chance of being successful. This is a costly and time consuming exercise for us as well as for Hambleton Council, which we would have wished to avoid.”
Broadview Energy had originally proposed a wind farm of five turbines on the site but the smaller scheme of three turbines will now generate power for around 4,000 homes and so help to meet Stockton's renewable energy target of 138MW by 2010.
