Broadview Energy is pleased that the Government’s Planning Inspector has upheld Broadview’s appeal to relocate Seamer wind farm’s electrical control room.
The appeal followed a decision by Stockton-on-Tees’s planning committee, contrary to its officer’s recommendations, to decline an application to move the control room. This appeal decision will allow Broadview to finalise its contractual arrangements for the wind farm and move the project forward to construction.
The Seamer wind farm is located between the villages of Seamer, North Yorkshire, and Hilton, Stockton-on-Tees. Planning approval for the full scheme was received in June 2010. Permission to build an electrical control room was included in the wind farm approval. Following detailed design work with the local electricity distribution network operator, Northern Electrical Distribution Limited, a planning application was submitted to slightly enlarge the control room’s size and relocate the building some 260 metres from the original site.
Work will start on the site later this year and, when built, the wind farm is expected to produce renewable electricity to meet the annual average electrical demands of around 6,400 households. Broadview is also currently in discussion with the local Parish Councils regarding the establishment of a community fund that would contribute £20,500 per annum to the local area.
