Broadview Energy was last night disappointed by the decision of local councillors to refuse permission for the relocation of the electrical control room at the Seamer wind farm, contrary to the advice of the Council’s planning officer.

Permission to build an electrical control room was granted by the Council last year as part of its approval of the Seamer wind farm. The request to move the building 250m and slightly enlarge its size was made following detailed design work with Northern Electricity Distribution Limited.  As part of the new design, Broadview offered to use local stone so as to ensure the appearance of an agricultural building in a rural setting.

Danny Maher, the Project Manager for the Seamer wind farm, commented: “We are surprised and disappointed by the councillors’ decision. Very little has changed: the revised location is very close to the previously approved location, it is further away from the highway and it is adjacent to the overhead National Grid power lines.”

Broadview will await a formal notification from the Council before considering its next action.
