Broadview Energy, the developer behind the proposed Starbold wind farm, successfully hosted a second operational wind farm trip for local residents, on Saturday 4th February 2012, to its four turbine Low Spinney wind farm near Gilmorton, Harborough District, Leicestershire.

Approximately 35 people attended the event at Low Spinney, Broadview’s second operational site, which began exporting green power in September 2011. The wind farm consists of four, 125 metre tall turbines, is located on agricultural land adjacent to the M1 motorway and, as such, has a number of similarities to the proposed Starbold site which is to be located adjacent to the M40 and would consist of five, 125 metre high wind turbines.

The trip allowed local residents to gain first-hand experience of operational wind turbines that are of the same dimensions as those proposed at Starbold.  People attending the trip were driven to different locations at various distances from the turbines, so that that they could hear how they sound and how they appear within the local landscape.   The trip was therefore an excellent educational exercise that will help inform residents’ views on the proposed Starbold wind farm as it progresses toward submission of the planning application.

James Turner-Moore, Project Manager for Broadview Energy, said: “It was great to offer so many local residents the chance to visit one of Broadview’s operational wind farms and, specifically, the chance to experience wind turbines of a comparative scale and setting to our proposals for the Starbold site. As expected, many of the residents were extremely surprised as to how quiet the turbines were.”

Broadview is presently planning to submit a planning application for the proposed Starbold wind farm to Stratford-on-Avon District Council in the coming weeks. Should the wind farm be approved, the scheme could be constructed and operational within 12 months, with the potential to generate enough electricity to meet the annual needs of 4,788 households within the region. It would also lead to the displacement of electricity and associated carbon emissions generated by fossil fuelled power stations.
