< Back to all project news 29 Jul 2009 - Low Spinney Planning appeal for Low Spinney wind farm submitted by Broadview Energy
As a result of Harborough District Council’s failure to determine Broadview Energy’s planning application for its Low Spinney wind farm within the specified 13 week period, the company has today appealed to the Planning Inspectorate, and therefore the Secretary of State for Communities & Local Government, to seek a final decision on its scheme.
Under the terms of the Town & Country Planning Act, Harborough District Council was scheduled to determine Broadview Energy’s application by the middle of May as the application had been submitted in February of this year (a period of 13 weeks). Despite repeated requests to the Council to determine the application, no date has been forthcoming and so Broadview Energy has chosen to appeal.
The application to Harborough District Council is for a 4 turbine wind farm, located on farm land between the villages of Gilmorton, Ashby Magna and Dunton Bassett. The application was submitted after extensive environmental studies had been undertaken, and consultation with local people, Harborough Council and key organisations such as Natural England, the Environment Agency and the Ministry of Defence. It is in line with national, regional and local planning policies, guidelines and regulations.
Jeffrey Corrigan, Managing Director of Broadview Energy, said: “We are sorry to appeal but we think it is in everyone’s interest, local people and ourselves, to have a decision and so remove any further uncertainty. From the start of the process more than a year ago, we have abided by the planning procedures, shared our plans with people and liaised closely with Harborough District Council’s planning department. We can’t see any reason why the Council has delayed making a decision on our scheme and so we have appealed to the Government.”
