At the Low Spinney wind farm open day on Friday 7th October 2011, the four 125m turbines were given names. During the summer term, children from two local schools entered a competition to name the turbines and, on Friday, the winning children cut ribbons to officially name each turbine as follows:

Spinner named by Flossy Salter, from Dunton Bassett Primary School
Whizzy named by Lyla Welch, from Dunton Bassett Primary School
Worzel named by Ella Ellingworth, from Gilmorton Chandler C of E Primary School
Gilly named by William Hooseman, from Gilmorton Chandler C of E Primary School

The day was a big success with approximately 500 local residents attending the event. Broadview’s Lisa Ross said: “We were overwhelmed by the interest of local residents wishing to see the wind farm up close and wanting to get a better understanding of how it works.  We are looking forward to working with the local Parish Councils to distribute the community fund of £16,000 pa which is linked to the project.”

The wind farm is expected to generate enough electricity to meet the average annual electricity demands of 5,000 households in the region for the next 25 years.
