< Back to all project news 11 Feb 2009 - Low Spinney Clean energy for the County if planning application is approved
People living in south Leicestershire will benefit from having clean and sustainable electricity if Broadview Energy’s plan to build a wind farm of four turbines located near the villages of Ashby Magna, Gilmorton, and Dunton Bassett is approved by Harborough Council. Broadview Energy has this week submitted a planning application and if approved by Harborough Council the turbines will generate power for the equivalent of around 5,000 homes, and so help to meet the county’s renewable energy target of 33MW by next year. The present level of capacity is 0.065MW.
The planning application to Harborough Council has been submitted following a detailed technical and environmental assessment of the site, known as Low Spinney, and extensive consultation with various organisations, such as Natural England, as well as the local councils. Broadview has also held two public exhibitions of its plans, most recently on February 3rd at Gilmorton Village Hall.
Jeffrey Corrigan, Managing Director of Broadview Energy, said: “The application is the culmination of nearly two years work, and it addresses a large number of different issues relating to the wind farm’s construction and operation. We believe that our application is thorough and appropriate for the site and adheres to the national, regional and local planning guidelines that exist. We have adapted our plans in light of our consultations and we now look to Harborough Council to give us permission. Low Spinney is an ideal site for a small wind farm that will generate clean energy for many years to come.”
The planning application will be open for public consultation via Harborough Council.
