Work started this month on Broadview Energy’s three turbine wind farm at Hill of Fiddes, near Cultercullen in Aberdeenshire. The construction work is being carried out by Morrison Construction Ltd. This includes site preparation, turbine foundations, the substation, and construction of the access tracks to each turbine. The turbine model to be used is the 2.3MW Enercon E70. Construction work will last approximately 6-8 months.
Construction vehicles will approach the site from the north along the A90, and then west along the B9000. The last part of the route to the site, a stretch of approximately 2kms, is along the unclassified road, UC8, which requires some widening.
In addition to the site preparatory work, the existing 25m wind turbine at the summit of the Hill of Fiddes, which has been inoperative for many years, will be removed. The new turbines are to be sited lower down the hill to the north of the existing turbine.
Enercon is aiming to erect the E70 turbines towards the end of this year, and the wind farm will start full operation by early 2010. When completed, Hill of Fiddes wind farm will generate clean power for approximately 3,700 homes in the region.
