An official opening ceremony involving children from the local school, who entered a competition to name the turbines, will take place later this year.
With the commissioning of the project, Broadview Energy is launching the Hill of Fiddes Community Fund, which will be administered by representatives from Foveran Community Council, Udny Community Council, Cultercullen and Foveran Schools, and will fund community-based projects such as those supporting education and the environment. Broadview Energy will contribute approximately £11,000 per year to the fund for the operational life of the wind farm.
The start of commercial operations follows a four year process during which Broadview Energy consulted with several interested parties including Scottish Natural Heritage, Aberdeen Airport, Community Councils, local residents and Aberdeenshire Council. Final planning consent was received in September 2008 and the eight month construction period began in July 2009. Civil works were carried out by Morrison Construction Ltd and Enercon GMBH supplied three Enercon E70 turbines, each capable of generating up to 2.3MW.
