< Back to all project news 22 Apr 2008 - Hill of Fiddes Aberdeenshire wind farm plans approved by Local Authority
Plans for a small wind farm at Hill of Fiddes, near Cultercullen, have been granted approval by Aberdeenshire Council.
Formartine Area Committee today voted to approve Broadview Energy’s application to build three 102 metre high turbines and a substation at Hill of Fiddes. The wind farm will provide enough clean energy to meet the average electricity needs of 3,700 homes and displace more than 14,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide each year.
Jeffrey Corrigan, Managing Director of Broadview Energy, said: “We are delighted with this decision and believe it is a positive reflection of the objective appraisal of the planning issues carried out by the local authority.
“Aberdeenshire Council has a thorough planning process in place for dealing with applications of this type, ensuring a fair and balanced approach is taken on each application.”
The existing 25m turbine at the summit of the Hill of Fiddes, which has lain abandoned for years, will be torn down during the construction process and new turbines sited lower down the hill, minimising the visual impact on the surrounding landscape.
Construction of the wind farm is anticipated to start in 2009 and is expected to take four to six months.

- Broadview Energy Limited develops wind projects in Great Britain that will generate clean, sustainable energy. The company focuses on small projects, typically between two and ten turbines, as they provide greater flexibility in site selection, simpler grid connections, and less visual and other impacts than larger projects.
- Broadview Energy identifies suitable sites, evaluates them and then takes them to the planning stage and then through to construction and operation.
- In addition to the Hill of Fiddes, the company currently has several projects under development in Cumbria, North Yorkshire and the East Midlands. For more information visit www.broadviewenergy.com or the project's website at www.hilloffiddes.co.uk
