Bicton

The proposed four wind turbine Bicton wind farm is situated on the site of a disused RAF airfield north of Kimbolton, Cambridgeshire, near the Bicton and Harvard Way Industrial Estates. The site is, and will continue to be, part of two arable farms.

Planning permission was refused by Huntingdonshire District Council in January 2011, despite the application being accompanied by a comprehensive and robust Environmental Statement. Broadview remains confident that the submitted information demonstrates that this is a good project in a good location and Broadview has therefore appealed to The Planning Inspectorate to overturn the Council’s decision. The appeal is the subject of a Public Inquiry which began in August 2011 and will be completed later this year with a decision expected in early 2012.

If approved, the scheme could be constructed and operational within 12 months and generate enough electricity to meet the annual needs of 4,894 households in the region. It would also lead to the displacement of electricity and associated carbon emissions generated by fossil fuelled power stations. Additionally, if approved, Broadview will set up a community fund that would support local community groups and projects with up to £600,000 over the wind farm’s 25 year lifetime.
