Wind Power in the Energy Mix
Energy Consumption
Energy Imports
The UK's consumption and sourcing of energy are changing. As our energy consumption increases, our dependency on imports, such as gas from Russia, increases. The graph below, shows that our dependency on imports rose above 20% in 2006 and 2007 1. With North Sea oil and gas reserves depleting, this dependence is likely to continue.

As global demand for fossil fuels increases, so too does the price, which results in a higher cost for our electricity. Wind farms do not have to purchase fuel and therefore help to keep electricity costs down in high fuel price environments.
